Houston Texans' offense had a strong performance vs. San Francisco 49ers — with one big exception
As good as the Texans' offense was against the 49ers, they must fix their troubles in the red zone, where only one other team is worse at scoring touchdowns.
When Kyle Shanahan was hired in 2017, Ryans was hired as the defensive quality control coach with Saleh as the defensive coordinator. Ryans ascended from QC to linebackers coach and eventually replaced Saleh as defensive coordinator. According to Saleh, that was the plan all along for Ryans.
"The plan at the end of the game was kicking the ball out of bounds so we could utilize the two minute and then had a timeout," coach DeMeco Ryans said. "And we did not execute that. Again, just goes to the entire game. Frustrating that we're not executing the things that we're coached to do."
As the Texans host the 49ers Sunday, DeMeco Ryans credits mentor Kyle Shanahan and reflects on coaching lessons, communication and contrasts.
