Who says you can't win Olympic gold at 40? Austrian Benjamin Karl's victory in the men's Alpine snowboarding parallel giant slalom (PGS) made him the oldest individual champion in the history of the Winter Games.

Austria's Claudia Riegler could be the mother, or even grandmother, of her snowboarding rivals. But at 52 years old she competed in fine fashion in Sunday's parallel giant slalom.

Malinin's score was 200.03. When Sato's was revealed as 194.86, it clinched the gold for the U.S. in this event for a second consecutive Winter Olympics and sent a bench full of U.S. athletes, including Madison Chock, Evan Bates, Amber Glenn, Alysa Lu, Ellie Kam and Danny O’Shea, hugging one another as they clinched the title.
